1. UV treated: The British Plastics Federation says that the addition of light stabilisers (they are called hindered amine light stabilisers (HALS)) in plastics are used “to inhibit the reactions in plastics which cause undesirable chemical degradation from exposure to UV light.” This chemical degradation from exposure to UV light is often seen as chalking or a white residue that forms as the polymers degrade over time. This degradation can often be avoided by adding HALS that are UV absorbers such as benzotriazoles, benzophenones or organic nickel compounds. By incorporating weathering stabilisers into the plastics used the damaging effects of UV light will be slowed down considerably. ↩
