3. A uv protected treatment like the one used on this shed is one our experts are happy to say is one of the best around.

Below is a brief overview of how some of the key points of this shed fairs across the market.

Treatment/Guarantee

The uv protected treatment process used here is one of the best types of treatment, and our analysis shows us that this is in facet the only kind of treatment used on same-size sheds that you’ll see getting used on 2% [3] (82 of 4,360) of all sheds analysed, as well as being used on 1% [4] (4 of 436) of the top 10% of sheds. While you’ll find that the Expert Score of this shed is 4 points lower than the average for uv protected 8′ x 22’s (80 vs the average of 84 [5]), you can be sure it’s not due to the treatment as this one of the highest scoring treatments found on 8′ x 22′ sheds. You’ll also find the uv protected treatment showing up on 4% of 8′ x 22′ sheds (6 in total).

On a plastic shed, the guarantee that the manufacturer offers is usually a very good indicator of the quality of the building. The longer the guarantee the more the manufacturer believes in the quality of the building they have produced. Typically we see manufacturer guarantees for plastic Sheds ranging from zero right up to a limited lifetime guarantee.

This plastic shed comes with a 10 years guarantee. Most plastic shed come with a 10 years guarantee (36.47% of them) [6].

For this particular brand (Palram Canopia) they offer 12 [7] different types of guarantees on their plastic sheds, with the 10 years guarantee on this being one of the shortest they offer. The 10 years guarantee is found on 64.52% of Palram Canopia plastic sheds [8], with a 5 year guarantee on 3.23%, a 12 year guarantee on 9.68% and a 15 year guarantee on 22.58% of its plastic sheds. It is great that this shed was given one of the highest guarantees offered by the brand, and this shows the manufacturer has a lot of faith in the overall quality of this part of their product range.

When looking at comparable 8′ x 22′ plastic sheds (we found 148 of them) the most popular guarantee length offered by manufacturers was 10 years [9]. 67.57% came with a 10 year guarantee, 18.24% came with a missing guarantee, 4.73% came with a 15 year guarantee, 3.38% came with a 5 year guarantee, 2.70% came with a 3 year guarantee, 2.03% came with a 20 year guarantee and 1.35% came with a 12 year guarantee.

You’ll also find the plastic cladding showing up on 2% of 8′ x 22′ sheds (3 in total) [13].

The walls are 1mm thick and we rate this the worst thickness and is the only thickness found on same-size sheds [14]. It is used on 1% of all sheds [15] and after analysing the top 436 products that make up the top 10% of sheds [16], we don’t find this thickness present on any of them. Further analysis shows us that out of all 8′ x 22′ sheds this is the only one to use 1mm thick walls [17].

1. UV treated: The British Plastics Federation says that the addition of light stabilisers (they are called hindered amine light stabilisers (HALS)) in plastics are used “to inhibit the reactions in plastics which cause undesirable chemical degradation from exposure to UV light.” This chemical degradation from exposure to UV light is often seen as chalking or a white residue that forms as the polymers degrade over time. This degradation can often be avoided by adding HALS that are UV absorbers such as benzotriazoles, benzophenones or organic nickel compounds. By incorporating weathering stabilisers into the plastics used the damaging effects of UV light will be slowed down considerably.

2. Polycarbonate: Is one of the toughest plastics available. The excellent toughness and thermal stability make Polycarbonate one of the most widely used thermoplastics. This durability makes this ideal for garden equipment and extremely durable plastic garden structure. Polycarbonate is also used for things such as riot shields, vandal proof glazing, safety helmets and headlamp lenses.

According to data from the British Plastics Fedaration the physical properties of Polycarbonate are that it is very good when exposed to high heat with a maximum continuous use temperature of 125 °C. This is coupled with the outstanding Notched Impact Strength data of 60 – 80 Kj/m².
