Let's Take a Closer Look...
Shed type and roof and size
This is a pent roof shed that measures up at 238.8 cm in width (234.4 cm internal) and 188.3 cm in depth (182.8 cm internal). It has a pent roof that is one of the key features of the building. Overall, the dimensions of the building are 8’ x 6’.
The pent roof really is a strong feature of the building. This roof works very hard to stop rainwater from becoming a problem, because it is sloped, and therefore sends rainwater off much quicker. The pent roof also gives a lot in the headroom stakes. There is more headroom due to the roof and it’s unique design. It’s not the world’s biggest structure so we appreciated that extra bit of breathing space. The beauty of the design really rests in that roof, because when you walk into the building you are instantly struck by the increased head height.
The roof has also been constructed using solid sheet materials. This brings in more strength and stability, and adds that extra layer of protection. What is missing here is any sense of customisation on the covering materials. You only get green felt as a covering. This is perfectly capable stuff, but it would have been nice to see some options so you can have complete peace of mind with the covering.
Cladding and frame and floor
The cladding on the building is certainly something to celebrate. At this price, it is pleasing to see that the manufacturers have decided to include tongue and groove cladding. This is very strong stuff, and it works by having two pieces of timber together in a tongue and groove style. The combined weight of the two timbers bring plenty of toughness and stability to the building.
BillyOh have made much of the doubled up framing they supply with this particular unit. And at first glance, there is less ‘wobble’ when the building is being used. The technology simply means that the building has an additional top rail and a thicker bottom rail for extra stability. This means you have naturally stronger building. We think it works well and adds plenty of value. It certainly adds value when you consider the relatively low price of the building.
The building comes with some options when it comes to flooring. You can purchase it without a floor and simply place your own flooring down. This is not a bad option and one that most people should be able to consider. Think carefully about how you are going to manage it, and you could end up with a very strong floor.
But you can also choose from what BillyOh offers. You can choose to have no base, a ‘just bearers’ option (again, giving you plenty of flexibility) or an Eze Base, which is a very strong and easy to install base. Then you get to the flooring itself, and the options expand even more. You can have a solid sheet floor, which the company call the ‘basic’ option, or the tongue and groove option. We would recommend the tongue and groove, but also that you don’t fit it yourself unless you know what you are doing.
Treatment requirement and warranty
We are absolutely thrilled to see that the unit has been treated at the factory. This takes a lot of work out of your hands, and allows you to be safe in the knowledge that you have a building that doesn’t need treating every year. This builds in longevity, and takes away the hard work that would normally be there.
Doors and windows
This is another pleasant surprise. You get 3 windows with this building. Two of them are fixed windows and one is opening. This is great because you get plenty of light with the windows, and also the ventilation aspect too.
Another great bonus here is the fact that the windows have styrene in them. This material is very strong and tougher than conventional glass. It is also shatterproof, so you have a safer window set up right from the outset.
Security and privacy
Those windows make a big difference due to the styrene. But you also get a handy turn button locking system, so you can rest assured there is extra security there.
The flooring is optional to a degree, but BillyOh don’t stop there. If you’re interested, you can choose from a range of colours for the trim and the walls. We found these to be very pleasing, and even though there is a lot of choice, the colors are all natural and make sense for the building and it’s style.
You can also choose shelving to go inside the building. Both options cost money, but they are useful to have. We probably wouldn’t go for the stack option because we found them to be a bit fussy. A simple shelving unit is suitable enough.
So, How Does It All Stack Up?
Ease of assembly
Quality of construction
Longevity of material
Final Thoughts: You get a lot for your money here and that really makes a big difference. We can't complain about much here other than the need to get some flooring sorted out on top of the cost of buying. But with three windows and other options including shelving this is a great buy. Add to that the fact that you also get that pre-treatment at the factory and you have a very high quality building for an excellent price.
